I’m Maeve
Lovely to meet you!
I'm Maeve Adams BSc Hons APDTI, and I'm dedicated to helping dog owners like you build meaningful and fun relationships with their four-legged friends.
With years of experience and a deep understanding of canine behaviour, I have the expertise to guide you and your dog towards meeting your goals.
With an unwavering commitment to positive and compassionate training methods, I prioritise building trust, using clear communication and creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for both you and your dog.
I’d love to work with you.
Why this is the only job for me
I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between humans and dogs. As a teenager, I used to walk local dogs simply for the joy of being around them, and that early love for their company never left. When I eventually got my own spaniel cross, Buster, everything deepened — he challenged me to learn more and pursue formal study in canine behaviour.
Over the years, that passion has grown into the work I do today as a dog trainer in and around Richmond upon Thames. Through Maven Dogs, I’m dedicated to helping owners feel confident and supported, whether they’re navigating puppy training, rescue dog challenges or reactive dog behaviour. I believe every dog deserves a home where they can thrive, and every owner deserves the happiness that comes from a calm, well‑behaved companion.
How am I qualified to help you?
…the long read
My journey into dog training and behaviour has been shaped by a lifelong love of learning, a passion for helping others, and of course, some very special dogs along the way.
After completing a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences, I spent many years working as a Training Manager within the environmental sector. Later, while raising my family, I discovered a new direction that combined my professional experience in education and coaching with a long-standing fascination with dogs and behaviour. The final nudge came from welcoming a lively Springer Spaniel puppy into our home, who reminded me just how rewarding, and sometimes challenging, life with dogs can be.
I am committed to ongoing learning and professional development, and have completed a number of training and behaviour courses, including Sarah Whitehead's respected ThinkDog! Level 2 programme. I am a Signatory to the CAWC Code of Practice with the RCDTBP, a member of Pet Dog Training Instructors (PDTI Ltd), holder of their Practical Instructing Skills Award with Merit, and an Associate Member of the PDTI (APDTI). I am also currently studying towards a Level 5 Diploma for Canine Behaviour Practitioners with the Dogenius Institute.
Today, I run puppy training classes and provide one-to-one support for dogs and their families, helping with everything from everyday life skills to more complex challenges such as separation-related distress, excessive barking, resource guarding, and other common behavioural concerns. My work is firmly rooted in force-free, fear-free principles and my goal is to help you create a happier, more harmonious life with your dog, so that you can enjoy all the companionship, connection, and joy they bring as a valued member of your family.
